100 years ago our nation was knee deep in the Prohibition experiment, and Lost Radio Rounders mark the occasion with "Demon Rum!"  This wonderful program features musical arguments from both sides of the bar. Love gone right, love gone wrong, and love gone hilarious! The sentimental Civil War ballad "Aura Lee" was the basis for the Elvis hit "Love Me Tender." Hank William's straightforward "Hey Good Looking" leaves nothing to chance, and Stephen Foster's "Oh, Susanna" is as catchy as it is quirky.

We dig deep into this treasure trove of work songs, play songs, love songs and classic ballads. “Tom Dooley,” “The Wabash Cannonball,” “Sixteen Tons” and “Down In the Valley” are just a few of the many selections you may hear.

In the Days of Stephen Foster

America’s first great songwriter remains one of its very best. He led a troubled life, but left lasting beauty behind. This fact-filled foray into his impressive catalog, includes “Hard Times Come Again No More,” “Oh, Susanna!,” “Beautiful Dreamer” and “Camptown Races” as well as selections from Foster’s 19th century contemporaries.

The American Songbag

The great poet and Lincoln biographer was also an important folk song preserver and performer. Here we sample the best of his landmark 1927 collection, “The American Songbag,” picking favorites like "Shenandoah,"Froggie Went a-Courting,” “John B. Sails” and “Turkey in the Straw .”
