Lost Radio Rounders: Political Songs

"We Want None of Thee!"

(To the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean")
Recorded live in Valatie, N.Y.

The election of 1896 was contested primarily on monetary issues. The policies of Republican William McKinley favored east coast business interests over farmers in America’s heartland, while Democrat William Jennings Bryan of Nebraska positioned himself as champion of the poor and self-employed.

Bryan supporters believed that wealthy businessman Mark Hanna was destined to be the power behind the throne in a McKinley administration, and mentioned him in this song despite the fact that he was not even on the ticket.
